Source: UAE Cabinet Resolution No. 56 of 2018
The Golden Visa is a long-term residence visa that was launched by the UAE government in 2019.
As a reminder, investor or employee visas have renewable terms of 2 years (previously the term was 3 years in some cases).
Originally, the Golden Visa was granted to specific categories of residents. They were considered to have made an exceptional contribution to the country. Today, the authorities have relaxed the criteria and the scope of eligibility has been considerably broadened.
The main advantages of the Golden Visa
The Golden Visa gives you access to a number of advantages:
– It gives you the possibility to obtain a residence visa for a period ranging from 5 to 10 years;
– It gives you the possibility to stay outside the country for more than 6 months without your residence visa being cancelled;
– It is not necessary to renew it every 2 years;
– It gives you the possibility to be your own sponsor (your residence will not depend on a sponsor, such as an employer for example);
– It allows you to live, work or study in the UAE;
– It allows you to hire as many household staff as you wish;
– If the holder of the Golden Visa dies, his family will be able to benefit from the Golden Visa until its expiration (no risk of cancellation of the visa after the death);
– It allows you to obtain the ESAAD card issued by Dubai Police and which was then reserved only for Emiratis (they offer you discounts on restaurants, hotels, stores, etc.).
