Reforms include five-year green residency, permits for job seekers and tourists.
The Golden Visa system has been expanded to attract as many people as possible. Among these new reforms, we have the Green Visa, the multiple entry tourist visa, permits for job seekers, etc.
Announced in mid-April, this decision of the UAE cabinet was to come into force 90 days after its publication in the Official Gazette. All these new visas will officially come into force in September 2022. The new visas are part of the biggest reforms ever adopted by the United Arab Emirates in terms of entry into the country and residence.
This new scheme will benefit expatriates already residing in Dubai and all new visitors making the Emirates an even more attractive destination to live and do business. Dubai wants to be the destination for investment and attract the wealthiest people to settle permanently in the country.
Visas announced in April
Here is the list of visas that were announced in April. Some have already been introduced and the rest will come into effect next month.
Multi-entry tourist visa
This new type of visa, reserved for tourists, is a multiple entry visa with a duration of five years. It does not require a sponsor and allows the person to stay in the Emirates for a maximum of 90 days and can be extended for another 90 days.
With this visa, the tourist can only stay in the country for 180 days. The tourist who applies for this visa, must meet certain criteria, namely a bank balance of USD 4,000 (or AED 14,700) or its equivalent in foreign currency in the last six months prior to the application.
This visa is for investors and entrepreneurs doing business in Dubai. They will not need to have a sponsor or host.
Visa to visit relatives/friends
Any foreigner can apply for this visa if they are a relative or friend of a UAE citizen or resident. It is not necessary to have a sponsor or host.

This visa is for any individual with a temporary work assignment in Dubai, such as a trial period or a project assignment. In order to be eligible for this visa, applicants must present a temporary work contract or a letter from the employer (based in the UAE) and proof of suitability.
Visa for study/training
This visa is intended for individuals or students who wish to undertake training, study courses and internships in the UAE. This visa can be sponsored by educational and research institutes in the public and private sectors. It requires a letter from the entity specifying the details of the study or training program or internship and its duration.
In the current scheme, parents were allowed to sponsor their children as long as they were under 18 years old. For girls, the rule is different since as long as they are not married they can be sponsored by their parents.
With these new reforms, male children can be sponsored up to the age of 25 (instead of 18).
In addition, children with disabilities are also granted a special permit for an indefinite period.
Job seekers can take advantage of this new visa to explore opportunities in the UAE. With this visa, the individual does not need a sponsor or host. In addition, this visa will be granted to holders of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, recent graduates of the world’s top 500 universities, as well as those classified in the first, second or third level of qualification, according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MOHRE).
